Step 9- The Closing
Everyone knows about this step but are you prepared for it? The main things you will need to bring are photo ids, your down payment (in a cashiers check) most title companies will NOT accept personal checks. Make sure you pad the check with a few hundred dollars extra in case the numbers are off at the last minute. Any extra will be refunded to you at closing by the title company. One other thing you will need is proof of home insurance for the first year if you are buying a single family home with no monthly association fee.
By having everything you need with you the closing should take about an hour. The only time this drags out is when the title company is waiting for the money from your bank to fund the loan. It is always a good idea to request a morning close, avoid Fridays and the last day of the month.
