10 steps of the home buying process (step 6/10 Negotiating terms)

Step 6- Negotiating terms

This is pretty obvious, isn’t it?  Yes but again I have a very good reason for adding this step to the list.  More often than not the seller will counter your original offer.  Be prepared for this, it could be something major like price or closing date or just some small things.  Either way I need you hear me on this IT’S NOT PERSONAL!!!!! it’s just business.  Here is where you really need to keep your cool.

This is the place where a really good real estate agent can make the difference.  The agent you hire is not emotionally tied to this property even though you are.  You want it this way because it is my job as your agent to keep you focused on the negotiations and not the emotion of it all.  This can make or break the sale so be prepared to be very, very patient with the process.  In some cases it can take a week to hammer out all of the details and in other cases it comes together in twenty minutes.  Either way be prepared that it will take as long as it takes.

Patience is the key here and a good agent will walk you through this and keep everything in perspective for you.
